Research Process

Search Strategy

Once you have a research question defined, use it to develop a search strategy. Remember that library databases don't work the way search engines do, so you may have to be more intentional in your searches. When searching a database, the search terms or keywords that you use determine your results.

  1. Restate your research question, such as "How does fake news spread online?"
  2. Identify the main ideas or concepts in your question, in this case: fake news, online.
  3. Consider related terms or synonyms of your concepts:
  •    Fake news: misinformation, disinformation, false news
  •    Online: social media, world wide web
