Find and use resources from the UMC Library.

Duo Authentication

The University of Minnesota has added a second layer of security to all University accounts. All affiliates of the university must enroll in Duo Security, which is a method of two-factor authentication.

If you have not enrolled a device before, you will need to create your Duo account first.

  1. Sign in to my-account.umn.edu with your internet ID and password.
  2. In the Self-Service menu on the left side of the page, click Duo Security.
  3. Click Create or Manage Duo Account.
  4. Click the green Start Setup button.
  5. Follow the directions found here to setup a device.

Once you have enrolled a device, you must go back into your account and enable Duo Security. If you miss this step, you will be locked out of your account in 14 days.

Getting your UMC Username and Password

To access library resources, you must begin by identifying your UMC username and password. This username and password will allow you to access all resources from the UMC Library.

Claim your account. You will need your student ID number as well as your birthdate. Make sure the birthdate is input with the year first, e.g. 2000-08-02. You will be asked to create a password, the requirements for which can be found if you click on the "Show Password Requirements" link on the form. Your password will need to be at least 16 characters long.
